Measuring Tips

Sleeve Length: With your elbow bent 90 degrees, place your hand on your hip. With the tape measure at the center back of your neck, measure to your shoulder, then to your elbow, and down to your wrist. This total length is your sleeve length in inches.

Bust: With arms relaxed at your sides, measure the fullest part of your bust. Keep the tape parallel to the floor for the best results.

Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, generally around the belly button area.

Hips: Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of your hips. Keep the tape parallel to the floor for the best results.

Inseam: Using a pair of your best-fitting pants with a similar material, measure from the top inner thigh to the bottom of the hem. The number of inches, to the nearest half-inch, is your inseam length.

Height: Without shoes, stand with your feet slightly apart and your back to a wall. The measurement from the floor to the top of your head is your height.

Not sure if you're considered a petite or a regular size? It's important to recognize that while most petites are 5'4" and under, proportion plays an important role, too. If you can answer "yes" to one or more of the following questions, a petite size will most likely fit you best:

  • Are blazers and outerwear baggy in the shoulders and too long in the sleeves?
  • Are regular-size tops usually baggy in the shoulders, too long at the waist and too long in the sleeves?
  • Are the leg (inseam) and rise in regular pants too long? Do they need to be shortened to fit you appropriately?
  • Are skirts loose-fitting in the waist and too long in length?
  • Are dresses usually baggy on top and too long in length?
