Kohl's — expect great things

A-Team Stories

Prevent Child Abuse America

Last spring, Kohl’s Associates joined together to participate in the largest A-Team event in Kohl’s history! From Maine to North Carolina, Kohl’s Associates raised money to fight child abuse across the country. In various events from May 14 through June 3, Kohl’s volunteers read books to kids, gave tours of fire and rescue trucks, as well as engaging them and their parents in various safety demonstrations.

Kohl’s volunteers from 180 Kohl’s locations helped make these activities possible by contributing more than 4,200 volunteer hours and qualifying Prevent Child Abuse for grants totaling $86,500 to support at-risk children in communities nationwide. All volunteers loved helping, had a great time participating and together supported Prevent Child Abuse America in a big way!

Riley Children’s Hospital

On August 28, 2007, Loss Prevention Associates from Indiana teamed up with Associates from the Columbus and Speedway, Indiana stores to support Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis at one of their annual fundraisers, the Mt. Comfort Air Show. Kohl’s Associates worked hard and helped with a variety of tasks from taking down fences, tents and tables, to picking up trash and executing general airport cleanup activities after the event. Not only did the fundraiser provide $350,000 to Riley, but through the Kohl’s Associates gift of time and talent, Riley received an additional $1,500 grant for the A-Team efforts. The Kohl’s team proudly displayed a sign reading "Partnership With Results,” which is exactly what Riley Hospital saw of these Associates that day.

Scales Elementary School

The third annual “Step Up and Serve” walk to raise funds for the Scales Elementary School (Murfreesboro, TN) Field Trip Fund was held on August 31. A team of Kohl’s Associates from the store in Murfreesboro stepped up to help with the event. Throughout the day, five Kohl’s volunteers supervised water stations and monitored the kindergarten through sixth grade classes.

Funds raised from this event will be used to help low-income students attend field trips throughout the school year. Every year, donations are sought to keep this fund going to ensure all children have access to the valuable experiences field trips offer. The local Kohl’s was thrilled to help enable all children to benefit from field trips that enhance learning through real-life support of in-classroom curricula.

The staff at Scales Elementary believes that both parent and community involvement are vital components in helping students be successful in school and in life. As an added benefit to Kohl’s Associates' volunteer time, Kohl’s awarded a $500 grant to the school to help ensure all children at the school can participate in activities outside of the classroom walls.
