Prevent Child Abuse America
Last spring, Kohl’s Associates joined together to participate in the largest A-Team event in Kohl’s history! From Maine to North Carolina, Kohl’s Associates raised money to fight child abuse across the country. In various events from May 14 through June 3, Kohl’s volunteers read books to kids, gave tours of fire and rescue trucks, as well as engaged them and their parents in various safety demonstrations.
Kohl’s volunteers from 180 Kohl’s locations helped make these activities possible by contributing more than 4,200 volunteer hours and qualifying Prevent Child Abuse America for grants totaling $86,500 to support at-risk children in communities nationwide. All volunteers loved helping, had a great time participating and together supported Prevent Child Abuse America in a big way!
Phoenix Children’s Hospital
In 2008, Kohl's A-Team members raised $13,500 through their volunteer efforts in support of Phoenix Children's Hospital (PCH) and are already on track to more than double that number in 2009. On March 24, 105 Kohl's A-Team members volunteered at PCH’s annual Water Safety Day. Volunteers taught water safety to children, helped with registration, lunch service and set up/tear down. As a result of A-Team support for this event, PCH received $7,500 in grants which will go toward future community outreach programs.
Campfire U.S.A.
On Saturday, March 21, the Pensacola Kohl’s A-Team joined Camp Fire U.S.A. to celebrate their 99th birthday party! Over 175 children attended the party which consisted of many educational stations including a bicycle safety information station, a tracking dog demonstration, cheerleading/gymnastic demonstration and a cakewalk. Kohl’s A-Team manned the most important station of the day, the food station, providing hungry guests with hamburgers, hot dogs and popcorn. As an added benefit, Kohl’s awarded a $500 grant to Campfire U.S.A. to help fund their "Family Empowerment Program."
