Children's Hospital Statistics

Children’s hospitals cross all diseases, states, religions and ethnicities, working tirelessly to
improve health for children. Currently, Kohl’s has partnerships with 154 hospitals around the
country.

The statistics listed below show how we support children’s hospitals and the great services they
provide to our communities:

  • In 2007, Kohl’s donated nearly $14 million to 143 children’s hospitals across the country.

  • 100% of the net profits from the sale of Kohl's Cares for Kids® merchandise will be
donated to support health and educational opportunities for children

  • Children’s hospitals on average devote:
    - 60 percent of their care to children under age six
    - Nearly 25 percent of their care to newborns
    - 26 percent of their beds to intensive care units

  • Each year, between 20 and 25 percent of children — more than 39,000 each day — will sustain an injury serious enough to require medical attention, missed school or bed rest. That's why a core part of children's hospitals' mission is to lead advocacy efforts to prevent injuries in their communities.

  • Virtually all children’s hospitals participate in clinical trials and in some type of health
    services research.

  • 1/3 of children’s hospitals operate child health research centers. At these cutting-edge
institutions, the distance from the research bench to patient bedside is so short that the clinical care improvements can move more rapidly than at ordinary hospitals.

  • 1/3 of children’s hospitals operate child health research centers. At these cutting-edge institutions, the distance from the research bench to patient bedside is so short that the clinical care improvements can move more rapidly than at ordinary hospitals.

  • For all children hospitalized in the United States, children's hospitals account for:
    - 39 percent of admissions
    - 49 percent of inpatient days
    - 59 percent of costs, $10 billion worth of care every year
